My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Review: Gojou & Marin's Love Story Just Got Deeper

 💖 My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 — A Fantastic Return of Love.

One of the more buzzworthy slice-of-life romances of recent anime seasons is back! My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is back and people are floral-ing over it! The first season of this show was tremendous, making a statement in the anime world that only select titles can do, and now this sequel is sure to provide more love, more laughter, and emotional vulnerability.

But most importantly, the question we should all be asking ourselves is if Season 2 is worth it...

Let's get into it!

---

🧵A Quick on-boarding One. Big. Hit — Season 1.

My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru) aired as part of Winter 2022 and it — and me like many, did not see it coming that the random mix of romance, cosplay culture, and emotional storytelling would work out so well.

The anime comes in and introduces us to Wakana Gojou, a shy little high school boy who pulls around a hobby of secretly making hina dolls, and Marin Kitagawa, an extravagant, extroverted gyaru, the anime and cosplay-obsessed type. When Marin naturally makes an ask of Gojou to help with her cosplay outfits they develop an improbable friendship that consciously turns organic.

The anime did not merely showcase "cute moments" — it articulated an intimacy that fostered a real sort of emotional relationship growth where animosity was animated and respect was mutual.

> ⭐️ Season 1 Rating:

MyAnimeList: 8.3/10

IMDb: 8.4/10

Crunchyroll Fan Score: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As a female audience member, I found Marin to be an incredibly refreshing character. She’s confident, unapologetically enthusiastic about her hobbies, and encourages Gojou’s understated talents. This did not feel romantic — instead, it felt empowering.

What’s important from Season 2?

Season 2 begins after the emotional rush of the summer festival, where it left off with new levels of chemistry between Marin and Gojou- this time with even more emotional stakes and character development.

Cosplay is an important part of season 2 but the new season explores:

Gojou’s newly found confidence

Marin’s hidden weaknesses and vulnerabilities

More challenges and characters in cosplaying

Moments that make your heart race — that make you cry.

CloverWorks has achieved top tier animation and character design once again. The emotional expressions, the lighting, even the minor intricate details in fashion and clothing are so well-done.

🌸 Public Reaction to Season 2

Fans — especially female viewers — are loving the more mature tone of Season 2. Social media is already buzzing with reactions like:

> “Gojou is the greenest flag in anime.”

“Marin is more than just best girl — she’s real, relatable, and raw.”

“This season feels deeper and more emotionally satisfying.”

The slow-burn romance is handled beautifully, and unlike many rom-coms, My Dress-Up Darling treats its characters with empathy and realism.

💬 Final Thoughts

As someone who often skips generic romance anime, My Dress-Up Darling feels special. It’s not just about the “will-they-won’t-they” — it’s about learning to accept yourself, your passions, and the people you care about.

Season 2 isn’t louder — it’s more intimate, more tender, and honestly, even more beautiful.

If you loved Season 1, Season 2 will steal your heart all over again.
